Newborn Hearing Screenings
In the state of Pennsylvania, it is law that your infant needs to have their hearing evaluated within the first 30 days of life. If there is a hearing loss, remediation needs to occur within the first six months of life. We have the equipment to conduct a comprehensive examination on young children and infants. Our office will also provide resources and solutions if remediation is needed. The primary measure of assessment used is Distortion-Product otoacoustic emissions. Distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) are generated in the cochlea in response to two tones of a given frequency and sound pressure level presented in the ear canal. DPOAEs are an objective indicator of normally functioning cochlea outer hair cells.
